The narration and imagery of the romantic and emotional scenes throughout Lynri's and Quincy's life were again brilliantly visualized and written. The horroresque mindfuck elements at the beginning put me off a bit at first, because I really had to overcome myself to keep playing in my quiet room alone in the dark of the night, but from act 2 on I was so intrigued and felt once again that there was nothing stopping me until I had finished the game.

In a swampy area right now, don't know how long I've got left but it's worth hitting up on game pass to see if you dig it, it's not about to win any awards at all for plot and characters (more like Vanilla: son of plain amirite?!) but it looks lovely, that can carry you through a fair bit.Įdit: Finished the game, gonna upgrade that seven to an eight, very well rounded titleĪnd thanks for reminding me about TOEM, I'm tempted, same with F.I.S.TĪnd thanks for reminding me about TOEM, I'm tempted, same with F.I.S.Like the previous games, I had read through the story in one go. One of the very few reviews out there describes the game as not having an ounce of fat, and outside my gripes with the combat system that's actually very on point, level design really does do that "take idea, elaborate but never repeat in the same way nor overuse", keeps me pushing on even if I'm now beginning to just walk past the enemies (they really don't actually do much to stop ya). The two proper bosses I've fought had some really solid movesets though, there was a lot going on but all very fair. That and from the word go, the prevailing tactic is just roll behind enemy, mash attack until you need to roll again, add some unusually sturdy lifebars to each enemy and I can't help but think the game would flow better if they just copped it faster. The combat though constantly knocks the games pace off kilter, it's like they wanted a deeper than normal combat system for a title like this but it takes until quite a way in to finally get to the obligatory skill tree system, most of the new moves within run off the same resource as the superior rage mode equivalent. I feel like its approach to level design is very much how I'd approach creating a game (at least going by like, Mario Maker I guess lol), so I'm kinda respecting that. I'm playing through Flynn right now, it's a solid action platformer with some clear Zelda-isms running through it. Let's not have a stupid debate as to what does and doesn't count as an indie game. I know Lost in Random is an "EA Original", but I feel like it keeps with the spirit of this thread. Let's use this thread to talk about which of these incredible games you've played and loved, and as well point out any other I almost definitely missed because there are so many. I want to play them all, but if money wasn't a factor than time absolutely would be. Indies already have to push and shove through the onslaught of massive games with huge marketing campaigns to get a chance, but in this month they also need to compete with a half-dozen other well-reviewed smaller titlew. That's absolutely bonkers, and in an odd way a bit sad to see.

On top of that, there is still Sable and Lemnis Gate to release as well.

Other than Lost in Random and TOEM, which have a 78 and 79 respectively, every single one of these games has an 80 or above score on OpenCritic. On top of that, this is the slate of indie releases that came out this month. September 2021 was already a busy month of releases for high-profile games like Deathloop, Life is Strange, WarioWare, Tales of Arise, and more.
